CURRENT OPENING:  Visual Communications Designer

Responsibilities:  The designer will be responsible for conceiving and creating visual communication design solutions for a wide range of client needs.  The position will focus on non-motion designs for digital and print work, with opportunities to contribute to video and motion-graphics creative work as skills and workload permit. Our wide range of clients and subjects require intelligence, curiosity, creativity, design skill, constant professional development, technical and production knowledge, and a self starting, self managed, and adroit balancing of quality and deadlines.  While the initial workload is entirely about production, demonstrated capability to lead and/or manage other visual designers is part of the job description. We expect the successful candidate to influence the direction of the company, and contribute materially to the quality of our work and brand as a whole.

Qualifications:  Viable candidates for this position will have both education and experience in design and visual communications. A competitive resume and portfolio will show us a candidate with substantial range and taste. We develop or evolve style(s) for the needs of specific clients, situations and subjects; application materials should showcase the capability to work that way. A grasp of statistics, and demonstrated command of visual communication of quantitative material will be a big competitive advantage.  Likewise, domain knowledge of technology, business or science will weigh in your favor.  Competency with digital creative tools is required, and stronger technical skills will weigh in your favor. We're a Mac shop, with workflow built primarily around Apple and Adobe suites.  Web design is not a job requirement - it might be a plus, but it's not a primary.  Say It Visually has been a "virtual" company, built around digital work from day one.  We will take the best candidate(s) no matter where they are, provided they're capable of working very effectively when virtual.  It is conceivable-to-likely that we will open a physical studio in the Northwest in the future, so potential and willingness to relocate is something we will also consider.

Salary and Benefits:  Competitive, DOE.  Our hiring approach is:  a) freelance b) contract/retainer c) full-time hire.

Workplace: We tend to operate on Pacific-hours workdays, and require enough real-time overlap to get the work done.  If deadlines and commitments require evenings and weekends, we expect people to be available.  Conversely, when production "crunch-time" is done, spontaneous time off is normal.  We require at least 2 weeks of vacation be taken per calendar year.

Reporting:  The visual designer will report to Matthew Dunn ("Chief Explainer"), with dotted-line direction from Jordan Schaffel ("Client Experience Officer").

About The Company:  Say It Visually helps clients make challenging subjects clear and engaging.  The company has been in business for nearly four years, and has built an international client base of top-tier companies across a wide range of industries.
